EN Specification

All safety footwear sold by South East Workwear conforms to EN ISO 20345 which provides a basic impact level of 200 Joules. This means the toe-cap will withstand an impact of 20kg falling from a height of 1.02 metres. There are 6 basic Safety Classifications:-

SB - Basic impact protection of 200 Joules.

S1 - 200 Joule toecap protection; closed seat region (fully enclosed heel); antistatic properties; energy absorption of seat region.

S2 - 200 Joule toecap protection; closed seat region (fully enclosed heel); antistatic properties; energy absorption of seat region; water penetration and water absorption resistance.

S3 - 200 Joule toe-cap protection; closed seat region (fully enclosed heel); antistatic properties; energy absorption of seat region; water penetration and water absorption resistance; plus penetration resistance; cleated outsole.

S4 - 200 Joule toe-cap protection; all rubber or all polymeric footwear with antistatic properties; energy absorption of seat region.

S5 - 200 Joule toe-cap protection;all rubber or all polymeric footwear with antistatic properties; energy absorption of seat region; plus penetration resistance; cleated outsole.

In addition there are extra protective features each with a code to help identify what is required for different working environments. So a product that provides 200 Joule impact protection, is antistatic and has a heat resistant outsole will be marked SB A HRO.

The additional coding is:-

HRO - Resistance to hot contact up to 300C

P - Penetration resistance offered by a midsole

E - Energy absorption of seat region

WRU - Water penetration and water absorption resistance

C - Conductive footwear

A - Antistatic footwear

CI - Insulation against cold

HI - Insulation against heat

SRA - Footwear resistant to slippage on a ceramic tiled floor with sodium Laurel sulphate lubricant.

SRB - Footwear resistant to slippage on steel with Glycerol lubricant.

SRC - Footwear resistant to slippage on steel with Glycerol lubricant and ceramic tiled floor with sodium Laurel sulphate lubricant.
